About Us
About Us
Our pack calls the beautiful Mid North Coast of NSW home, where we live on acreage near Taree. Our dogs have plenty of space to run, play and explore around our property, with the creek being a favourite place for a swim.
Life with our dogs extends well beyond home. They regularly join us for trips to the beach and river, as well as everyday adventures to Bunnings, Petbarn, cafés and other dog-friendly places. We believe giving our dogs a rich variety of experiences is an important part of raising confident, adaptable and well-rounded companions.
Above everything else, our dogs are family first. Their health, happiness and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make within our breeding program.
Our Experience
We bring a diverse range of experience and knowledge to our breeding program, having many years of experience across animal care, veterinary nursing, dog training, canine behaviour and genetics, ethical breeding programs and zookeeping, including experience in senior roles and relevant qualifications.
Before our Dogs in Wolfsuits journey began, we bred pedigree ANKC Labradors for five years. Those years gave us invaluable experience in breeding, genetics, whelping and raising puppies, while reinforcing just how important careful health testing and thoughtful breeding decisions are.
In 2020, after considerable planning and research, we welcomed our first litter of what would become our Australian Wolfalikes.
We are incredibly proud of the dogs we have produced since. Watching them grow into much-loved family companions and seeing the qualities of generations before them continue through our lines is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
Health & Temperament
Our breeding decisions are never based on appearance alone. We carefully consider health, temperament, structure, genetic diversity and the individual strengths of each dog when planning our pairings.
Temperament is particularly important to us. Behavioural traits can have a genetic component, which is why we select breeding dogs with sound, stable temperaments alongside their physical health.
Our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive DNA health screening through Embark Veterinary, with results independently reviewed as part of our AAPDB requirements. They also have their hips and elbows X-rayed and scored before breeding.
Health testing can never guarantee that a dog will remain free from every health condition throughout its lifetime, but it allows us to make informed breeding decisions and reduce the risk of passing on known testable inherited conditions.
AAPDB Membership & Welfare Standards
Dogs in Wolfsuits is a Full Member of the Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders Inc. (AAPDB)#17741 and undergoes an annual independent veterinary welfare audit as part of maintaining Full Membership.
AAPDB members are required to meet the Association’s standards and Code of Ethics, comply with the relevant animal welfare legislation and breeding requirements within their state or territory, and successfully complete an annual veterinary audit.
For us, membership is about accountability. We believe responsible breeders should be open to scrutiny and willing to demonstrate that the welfare of their dogs and puppies comes first.
Our responsibilities don’t end when one of our puppies leaves us. We are committed to supporting our families throughout their dog’s life and to ensuring that dogs we have bred always have somewhere to turn should their circumstances change.
Our Commitment
We follow the requirements applicable to dog breeders in NSW, including the Animal Welfare Code of Practice – Breeding Dogs and Cats and relevant NSW animal welfare and companion animal legislation.
Responsible breeding is about far more than producing puppies. It is about making thoughtful decisions before a litter is conceived, providing exceptional care throughout every stage of our dogs’ lives, continually learning and evolving, and taking lifelong responsibility for the dogs we bring into the world.
Every Dogs in Wolfsuits puppy represents years of planning, knowledge, care and commitment and we are incredibly proud of the dogs and families that make up the DIWS community.
